SGA Security Tanzania Ltd invites applications to fill the vacant position of Fleet & Workshop Manager. The company operates in all main towns in Tanzania, with a fleet of over 250 vehicles and motorcycles, maintained through a mix of own workshops and outsourced garages. The holder shall be based in Dar es Salaam.


Job Summary

A Fleet & Workshop Manager performs organizational and management tasks to monitor, maintain, and improve the company’s fleet and oversee workshop activities. The holder is responsible for providing oversight of fleet maintenance, including leadership and direction to the Mechanics and team. The Manager ensures vehicles comply with regulatory safety and roadworthiness standards, maintains accurate service records, and provides analysis and recommendations on the economic viability of each vehicle.

The Manager will also respond quickly to changes or situations to maximize vehicle uptime for the smooth running of company operations.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement company maintenance and preventive maintenance policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Oversee quality assurance audits and attainment of operational goals.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including training, accident investigations, and on-the-job coaching.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance monitoring of mechanics.
  • Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all Fleet & Workshop activities.
  • Handle daily work plans, cost analysis, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, OSHA, and company safety policies.
  • Oversee daily vehicle maintenance programs and employee assignments.
  • Ensure the workshop is properly maintained with appropriate tools and training.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date fleet maintenance records.
  • Utilize fleet management information systems for monitoring and reporting.
  • Build and maintain working relationships across business lines and departments.
  • Manage vehicle licensing, registration, and budgeting for repairs/replacements.
  • Ensure drivers receive proper training and adhere to safe driving standards.
  • Monitor driver schedules and driving practices.
  • Provide management reports on budgeting, schedules, and fleet performance.
  • Develop methods to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Assist in fleet-related investigations and incident management.
  • Perform other duties related to the role as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, goal setting, and training abilities.
  • Expert knowledge of driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance, and industry practices.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and non-emergency issues.
  • Proven ability in preparing and interpreting management reports.
  • Proficiency in basic math, data analysis, and Excel reporting.
  • Familiarity with transportation scheduling and fleet management software.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle mechanics.
  • Strong budgeting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking.

Education and Training Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automobile Engineering (light vehicles) or equivalent qualifications.
  • HND holders with extensive relevant experience may be considered.
  • Valid driving license (multiple classes preferred).
  • Additional licenses for vehicle/machine operation are an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications from institutions like the National Institute of Transportation (NIT) are desirable.

Experience Requirements

  • Hands-on experience working with large fleets or in a commercial workshop/garage.
  • Competent mechanics with engine building and diagnostic experience (manual/electronic) will have an advantage.
  • Experience in managing busy operations with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Experience from an ISO-certified organization is desirable.
