happy hockey at the shelter childrens home

It was a fun filled hockey afternoon at the Shelter Children’s Home in Ngong as SGA, a leading security company in East Africa, donated two new hockey goal posts to the home. The company also gave shirts to the hockey team and the Kenya Hockey Youth Development Programme.

The afternoon featured a friendly match between the Rabobank and Shelter children’s Home  team. The Shelter Children’s home won giving them another reason to smile for the day. The little ones were not forgotten as laughter filled the air as they tossed themselves up and down the bouncing castles. Later came a hotdog feast with soft drinks to re-energise the children.

The Shelter Children’s home houses youngsters between two to eighteen years orphans and children from destitute families that cannot provide them with the proper care necessary for their upbringing. The orphanage provides the children with a home, food, clothing and an education.

The objective of the Kenya Youth Development Programme is to develop talented youngsters to bring Kenya back into the top ten hockey nations.  The programme enables needy children to learn to play hockey through tuition from renowned coaches.  The youngsters receive sticks and balls and are served a substantial meal after their practice sessions and matches.
