Group Tax Manager
Job Introduction
This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with both local and international tax regulations, optimizing tax strategies, managing tax risks, and supporting business growth from a tax perspective. The ideal candidate must have over 8 years of experience in tax management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all direct and indirect tax matters for the group, including corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and customs duties.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations across jurisdictions in which the group operates (Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania).
- Review and file tax returns, including consolidated group filings where applicable.
- Oversee tax accounting and reporting, including deferred taxes, tax provisions, and disclosures in financial statements.
- Manage tax audits and liaise with tax authorities and external consultants and develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the group’s tax position.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the business.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, operations) on tax-related matters in projects.
- Provide support to subsidiaries when dealing with revenue authorities on all matters relating to taxation.
- Responsible for the tax side of budgets and forecasts.
- Optimization of group and subsidiary taxation expenses by identifying areas of tax savings.
- Review and oversee routine monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliations across the group.
- Conduct periodic internal tax health checks to proactively identify risks and ensure full compliance.
- Liaise with and coordinate external tax advisors and consultants to ensure high-quality tax planning, compliance, and audit support.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and governance around tax processes and documentation.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of tax-related disclosures and provisions in management accounts and audited financial statements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Must be CPA (K) or ACCA finalist
- Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Administration is an added advantage
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in taxation, with at least 3 years in a managerial or group-level role.
- Strong knowledge of international tax laws, transfer pricing, and tax treaties.
- Proactive, self-motivated professional with a hands-on approach and a willingness to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
- Strategic thinking with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders across geographies.
